I don’t know what it is about 2025 but all of the people that made me who I am keep showing up and I am so here for it!
I shared a conversation with a friend recently asking why this coming together feels so good and I think we both realized that in high school, especially one like Performing Arts where it is demanded of you to show yourself for your art in front of your peers, that we knew each other at a very pure time. That particular high school experience felt more like church.
In dance we come together in thought and body, in process and exertion, with music under our wings. We confront our weaknesses in front of each other, showing our vulnerability in skin tight clothing, and take great delight in time and space, individually and in the flight of the people on our right, left, in front and behind us.
To be understood and accepted and cheered for in this way is the greatest sense of being seen and loved.
And now as we are older and time has done its work on us, to return to this purity is priceless. It is a true and rare gift. And I am filled with gratitude and big feelings of all kinds. I am also appreciating myself in a new but old way through the eyes of my dear friends who knew me when.
